Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has said the club will still be able to make big signings in the summer despite taking a financial hit due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The players announced on Monday they would be taking a 70 per cent pay cut due to the pandemic to help the club out during the current crisis.

Reports have suggested Barca could lose €100 million because of coronavirus, but Bartomeu says the team are still working hard on transfer deals.

“Abidal and Planes are still working on building a strong team for next season,” he said.

”I can’t talk about names, but Barca will be making moves to do the deals we feel necessary. We make more money than any other football club in the world, so of course we have the capacity [to make big signings].

“There is not going to be as much money in the transfer market this summer because of the pandemic. But I predict that we are going to see a lot more player exchange deals.”
