COVID-19 could be lingering on surfaces for up to three days and in the air for up to three hours — biding its time until it can latch onto a host — according to early research.

The team of scientists led by Neeltje van Doremalen from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases concluded coronavirus transmission from “respiratory secretions” in the form of droplets or aerosols appeared “likely”.

The research was published in medRxiv and is yet to be peer-reviewed.
